We hear and often say “God is able to do immeasurably more than we ask, think or imagine!” If you are hearing it for the first time, here is the verse: “Now to Him who is able to do so much more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20, BSB). Check out my blog post on a revelation I got on this verse here.
It is important to ask. Especially when we need help. That’s obvious right? Wrong! Sometimes we do not even know we are stuck, or that life could be better than it is now. How can we ask, if we do not know we are in need? I was at that point toward the end of August 2021_ needing help and not knowing it. I was part of the launch team of an amazing book- How (Not) To Save the World by Hosanna Wong. It is such a beautiful book.
Within its pages I came across this verse and a beautiful explanation of it.
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful, as you pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may declare it clearly, as I should.
(Colossians 4:2-4, BSB, Emphasis mine)
“that God may open a door for the word…”. I thought, “why have I never seen this before? Or why has this never stood out to me before? The Word of God truly is alive and active. Paul asked God to open doors for the ministry and work he was doing and that he do it well? He wrote to his friends to pray about it too!! So cool!”
I love how God works. How God speaks. From a nudge to join the launch team to me being actually picked and reading this message just when I needed it! Cool, right? You ain’t seen nothing yet!
I needed opportunities to minister to people, yet it had never occurred to me to actually ask God about this. I knew to ask God for physical things, or tangible things, but… opportunities? So, I started praying for God to open doors for what He called me to do and I believed He would.
A few days later, I get on Instagram at 7:36pm EAT on a Sunday, my feed refreshes and an Instagram story, posted 16 hours earlier by my friend Kristina, pops up first. At that point in 2021, I did not get online much on Sundays. It was my day to unplug. But, if I had waited until Monday morning to get online, I would have missed it.
Kristina is the founder and CEO of a Non-profit Organization on the East Coast of the US. We had interacted on Instagram and somehow struck a friendship. On her Instagram story, she asked for someone skilled at finances and budgeting. I responded by asking if she had gotten anyone and she said no. I proceeded to inform her of my skillset and experience (My first Bachelor’s degree is in Actuarial Science and I had worked in pensions and finance for two years). I checked ALL THE BOXES she needed! She was asking because she was planning an event on finances for her ministry and needed someone to be the key note speaker!
I had just prayed about this! What she wanted was right up my alley! Practical and professional with a Biblical foundation. My first international speaking engagement, right after this prayer!? What!! Now here is the clincher, that Saturday night before she posted it on her story (Which was almost sunrise on Sunday morning for me, as she was on Eastern Time- 7 hours behind East Africa Time) she was praying for a key note speaker for her event and was thinking of getting someone in her location, but God told her not to look within her geographical location but instead to post on Instagram, because she was going to get the speaker for that event on Instagram. I am the only one who responded and I was exactly what she needed.
Look at God! So amazing. I have seen and experienced God work when we ask. Because in the asking, comes listening, comes direction or redirection on where to go next and comes miracles. When we ASK, God is faithful to keep His word of DOING more. Whether you want job opportunities, speaking engagements, work engagements, clients, gigs, interviews, … whatever it is, ask God to open doors. To mention your name to ears you can’t access, to cause people to recommend you for things, to cause people to speak favourably of you to the right people at the right time- like Joseph (Click here for blog #7) To put you on the right path. To lead you to the right place at the right time- even if online. However God chooses to do it, ask for it and expect to see the marvelous work of God.
